The Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday evening announced that he would postpone his Odarpu yatra scheduled to start on Tuesday by a month on the direction of the Congress high command.He also added that he was hoping to resume the tour from July 8, the birthday of his late father, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, since he was confident of getting the high command’s permission in the meantime.
With Monday’s statement it is clear that the Kadapa MP wants to buy more time either to convince the party leadership and get clearance, or to “get convinced” to call off the tour indefinitely.

Sonia angry with Jagan for his defiant attitude
The Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, is so displeased with Jagan Mohan Reddy’s insistence on continuing with his Odarpu Yatra that she told the leader of another party who had called on her that she did not like the defiance of the party diktat being shown by the Kadapa MP.
Despite this, the Kadapa MP is firm on hitting the road on June 14 even if he doesn’t get the go-ahead from the party leadership for the Odarpu yatra. He had put off the yatra that was scheduled to resume on June 8.
Mrs Gandhi told the visiting MP that she did not like Jagan’s defiance of the party leaders. She reportedly spoke about a letter written to her by Jagan’s MLA mother, Ms Vijayalakshmi, seeking an audience with her.
Though the contents of the letter are not known, Mrs Gandhi apparently told the MP that the tone of the letter was not acceptable as it clubbed political issues and family sentiments. That, according to the Congress president, was not acceptable.
According to sources close to the MP who called on Mrs Gandhi, the Congress high command is in no mood to allow Mr Reddy to resume his Odarpu Yatra.
“We have asked him to support the state leadership and behave in a manner acceptable to party, but his adamant attitude and gestures have shown that he is not prepared to support the leadership. In such a situation how can we support his yatra?” Mrs Gandhi reportedly said.
The party high command is not going to consider any of Jagan’s pretexts or explanations till the time he apologises to the party, without insisting on being allowed to take up the yatra, said sources.

Jagan to take mom to meet Sonia on yatra
Now that his Odarpu yatra has been derailed at least temporarily, the Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, is planning to go on a “sentimental yatra” to Delhi to meet Congress president Ms Sonia Gandhi and get her approval to resume his aborted yatra.
Mr Reddy, who returned to Hyderabad on Tuesday night, was closeted with his family members and well wishers till midnight. On Wednesday, he held discussions with MLAs close to him and with MP, Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao.
According to sources, Mr Reddy is keen to resume his Odarpu yatra from June 8, from Srikakulam district, but only after getting the go-ahead from the Congress party in Delhi, which had directed him to abandon the yatra last week.
In an interesting development, the Majlis chief, Mr Asaduddin Owaisi, met Mr Reddy on Wednesday and according to sources advised him to fall in line with the party's wishes and adopt a wait and watch policy.
There were rumours on Wednesday that Mr Reddy was going to resign both his Lok Sabha seat and his membership of the party and take up the Odarpu yatra, but this was denied by sources close to him.
It is fairly certain, though, that the Reddy clan, including Mr Reddy’s mother, the MLA, Ms Vijayalaxmi, will be going to Delhi to try and meet the Congress president.
Mr Reddy has told his supporters that he has met the Congress political secretary, Mr Ahmed Patel, and the law minister, Mr Veerappa Moily, and explained his position with regard to the Odarpu yatra and the incidents in Warangal district on May 28, but he feels a meeting with Sonia Gandhi to give her the “real picture”, is essential. “Let me see her reaction and direction to me, I will go according to that,” he told his supporters.

With this, the 37-year-old ambitious and impulsive MP has suffered a major loss of face both at Delhi and at the home front.

High command snubs Jagan, says no loose talk
The Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, was sharply reprimanded by the Congress high command on Monday for his defiance but not before he made things worse by blaming the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, for the violent incidents in Mahbubabad on Friday during his botched ‘Odarpu yatra’.
Jagan rushed to Delhi to pacify the high command, but in an obvious signal of displeasure, the Congress chief, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, has not given him an appointment so far. Instead, her political secretary, Mr Ahmed Patel, gave him a sharp dressing-down for his defiance and asked him not to indulge in ‘loose talk’.
But that was exactly what the young MP did before meeting Mr Patel, by appearing before the media and making a direct attack on Mr Rosaiah for not providing security to the MLA, Ms Konda Surekha, who was pelted with stones at Mahbubabad railway station by Telangana agitators.
“When women legislators belonging to weaker sections are being attacked by some 100 Telangana activists with stones, why was there no policeman there?” he asked. “Whose failure was this? Is the CM not responsible for this? I will tell the party high command that the Rosaiah government is non-functioning.”

Jagan leaves for Delhi as high command asks him to stop Yatra
Congress MP Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has invited the displeasure of high command over his ‘Odarpu Yatra’, today left for New Delhi where he is expected to meet top party leaders.
Mr. Jagan, who has defied the high command’s directive not to undertake the yatra, is expected to meet senior leaders over the issue, sources said.
Congress Core Committee member and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had made it clear yesterday that Jagan should call off his yatra as per the high command’s directive.
The Congress central leadership had asked Mr. Jagan not to go ahead with his ‘Odarpu Yatra’ in Telangana in view of the surcharged atmosphere in the region.
Defying the directive, Mr. Jagan, however, embarked on the yatra on May 28. The tour was to console the families of those who allegedly committed suicide or died of shock over the death of his father Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
Violence took place at Mahabubabad railway station ahead of Jagan’s arrival, as Telangana supporters, who were opposing his visit, threw stones and clashed with the police.

Security beefed up over Telangana bandh call
Andhra Pradesh Police have said all preventive measures have been put in place to avoid any untoward incident in the wake of the bandh call given by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) in the Telangana region on Saturday.
“Police are making all necessary arrangements to prevent agitators from indulging in violence during (Saturday’s) bandh in the Telangana region,” DGP R.R. Girish Kumar told reporters here.
Twenty four people, including eight policemen, were on Friday injured in violence that broke out during a tour of Congress MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to Telangana, following which he was taken into preventive custody forcing him to abandon his week-long ‘Odarpu yatra’ which was to begin from Mahbubabad in Warangal district.
Holding Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy responsible for the violence in Warangal, the T-JAC has called for the bandh in 10 districts of the Telangana region.
The DGP said pro-Telangana activists resorted to road blockades in Warangal and Nalgonda besides pelting stones on shops near Osmania University campus here.
Pro-Telangana activists took out a rally from Osmania University campus towards Tarnaka area and forcibly tried to close shops in the area, the DGP said.
At some places they also threw stones and tried to damage shops, but the police intervened and ensured safety of the private properties, he said.
Similarly, protesting the detention of Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, his followers in Tirupati and Kadapa staged road blockades and reportedly set two bogies of Padmavathi Express on fire.

Congress MP from Kadapa Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was on Friday afternoon taken into preventive custody to pre-empt his visit to Mahabubad in Warangal district.
Defying the Congress high command's directive, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy had boarded the Inter-City Express train in Secunderabad in the morning to proceed to Mahabubabad, a commercial town in the Telangana heartland. He was to begin the second leg of his “odarpu yatra” (tour to console families of those who ended their lives in the wake of his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's death last September).
AICC general secretary Veerappa Moily had called up Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday and asked him to cancel his tour as it would inflame passions once again in the Telangana region.
Hardly had the train travelled about 70 km, it was detained near a wayside railway station, Vangapalli, in Nalgonda district by the police. Even as the train waited for three hours, clashes broke out between Telangana activists and Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy's supporters in Mahabubabad culminating in police firing.
As the situation threatened to get out of hand, police entered the coach in which Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy and informed him about their decision to take him into custody. He was escorted to a waiting vehicle by Additional DCP (Task Force), Hyderabad, V.B. Kamalahasan Reddy and DSP of Bhongir R. Narayan Rao. A case was registered against the MP in Yadagirigutta police station.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy termed his arrest as a conspiracy, part of which his train was deliberately detained at the railway station. "I will not sit quiet after this. I will undertake my yatra later," he added.

Desam divided over Jagan yatra
The Kadapa MP, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s ‘Odarpu Yatra’ in memory of his father YSR has created a rift in the Telugu Desam with the senior MLA, Mr E. Dayakar Rao, opposing it and the MP, Mr N. Harikrishna, expressing disapproval of his party colleague’s stance.
While Rayalaseema-Andhra leaders support Mr Harikrishna’s stance, Telangana leaders including Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy refused to be drawn into the controversy. Dr Nagam had initially opposed Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tour.
Mr Dayakar Rao openly defied Mr Harikrishna on Monday and said that he stood by his decision to oppose Mr Jagan’s yatra to Warangal on May 28.
According to him, the tour was politically motivated and all the claims about people dying for the sake of YSR were bogus. “When scores of students had committed suicide for Telangana he (Jagan) had no concern for them,” said Mr Dayakar Rao.
The TD MLC, Ms Nanapaneni Rajkumari, came in defence of Mr Harikrishna. “Whether its Mr Jagan or Mr Chiranjeevi, everyone has right to tour any part of the state,” she said. “How can anyone oppose a visit?”
On the other hand, the TD politburo member, Dr Kodela Sivaprasad Rao, criticised Mr Harikrishna and said Mr Jagan was trying to capitalise on the so-called deaths.
As usual, the TD president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, has extended his support to both the camps.
Mr Naidu said it was not correct to oppose tour of Mr Jagan or any other leader. In the same breath, he said that Mr Dayakar Rao and other T leaders were only airing the feelings of the people.
