The Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan, on Wednesday launched the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) third generation (3G) mobile services in Hyderabad offering a plethora of features such as live TV, high-speed mobile broadband and movie download.
The 3G services would offer customers video telephony, high-speed Internet and various value-added services such as mobile TV, location surveillance and video-on-demand.
“With the launch of the 3G services, BSNL has taken a generation leap. It has unveiled a new chapter in the history of telecom sector in the state that has expanded by leaps and bounds,” Mr Narasimhan said after the launch of the 3G services.
Mr T.N. Sudhindra, the chief general manager of BSNL, Mr Rajiv Agarwal, the principal GM, and Mr K.K.Thakur, the GM, marketing, participated in the programme.
Mr Sudhindra said, “The 3G services will be extended to 28 cities in the state in a phased manner. Currently, we have a customer base of 41 lakh under the 2G services. We have planned to give 19 lakh new 2G connections and 3.35 lakh 3G connections.”
The 3G services are available both in pre-paid and post-paid tariff plans. Pre-paid customers can take a new connection for Rs 59 towards SIM cost and Rs 120 as other charges with a validity period of six months.
Existing post-paid customers can get the 3G services by sending an SMS ‘M3G25’ to 53733. They will be charged Rs 25 extra as fixed monthly charges in addition to their existing plan charges.
