Clearing doubts about the alleged irregularities in law officers’ postings, the state information minister, Dr Geeta Reddy, said lawyers from the Telangana region got the majority of the posts.
Refuting allegations that injustice was meted out to the region in appointing of law officers, Dr Reddy released statistics of region-wise appointments.
Of 39 government pleader posts, Andhra got 13, Telangana 18 and Rayalaseema 8.
Of the 72 assistant government pleader posts, Andhra region got 26, Telangana 33 and Rayalaseema 13.
Of the 132 standing counsel posts, only 59 were filled up till date of which 26 went to the Telangana region while Andhra got only 16 and Rayalaseema 17.
“The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, appointed Mr Deshpande on Tuesday as Public Prosecutor. He is from Adilabad. There is no truth in allegations that Telangana was neglected,” she said.
The minister for law, Mr M. Venkata Ramana, pointed out that the government would give equal representation to the three regions while posting additional advocate general.
The minister requested the lawyers to maintain restrain and uphold professional values.
The Cabinet sub-committee comprising law, information and forest ministers had met on September 7 to discuss the alleged irregularities in postings of law officers and found there were no such instances.
“The committee invited Telangana lawyers and their office bearers to talk. There were no irregularities in the appointments, and if Telangana lawyers have any information proving otherwise, they can submit it to the committee. We are ready to look into it,” said Dr Geeta Reddy.
