Andhra Pradesh Governor appeals for peace

In the backdrop of the ongoing movement for statehood to Telangana, Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Tuesday appealed for peace and harmony so that the state could continue on the path to progress.

Addressing the Republic Day parade at Secunderabad Parade Grounds here, he called for building an “equitable and just society with a sense of brotherhood and love as well as compassion in our hearts”.
“I appeal to all sections of the society in the state to ensure peace and harmony so that the strides we have made in development and welfare could be sustained and the pace of progress could be maintained,” said Mr. Narasimhan, who recently took over as state governor.
He pointed out that with rich natural resources and dependable human resources, Andhra Pradesh’s progress in recent years had become a cynosure for all decision makers at the national level.
“I am confident that the onward march of Andhra Pradesh will continue and people will be in the forefront of the mission to build a strong, prosperous, harmonious, vibrant and resurgent Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
Mr. Narasimhan, former director of Intelligence Bureau, noted that the state has become a trend setter in handling the extremist threat in the country.
“The Andhra Pradesh government has successfully contained the Maoist menace. The state has become a trend setter in handling the extremist threat in the country. Besides effective patrolling and combing operations, the credit for achieving such milestone in containing extremism is also due to successful rehabilitation programme for surrendered extremists through various agencies,” he said.
Mr. Narasimhan praised anti-extremist elite force Greyhound commandos for their work in putting down Maoist activity in the state.
