Congress in a fix over Jagan’s Warangal tour

The Congress high command is in a dilemma over the proposed five-day tour by the Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, in Warangal district from May 28.

Mr Jagan has planned the tour to console families of those who died following the tragic demise of his father, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.

On Tuesday, party leaders from Telangana region met the union minister and state Congress affairs in-charge, Mr Veerappa Moily, and told him that Mr Jagan’s tour would spoil the peaceful atmosphere in the region. According to them, Mr Jagan had angered people of Telangana by supporting the united state cause.

Telangana organisations, including the Joint Action Committee, have already opposed his tour and have threatened to disrupt it. A protest bandh was also observed in Warangal district on Tuesday.

However, the MP, Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, a mentor of Mr Jagan, also met Mr Moily and told him that YSR’s son had already toured West Godavari and Khammam districts where he received overwhelming public response. There was no truth in the contention that his tour would vitiate the atmosphere in Telangana, said KVP.

On his part, Mr Jagan in a public appeal reiterated that the intention of his tour was only to console the family members of the victims. “It has nothing to do with politics,” he said.

Mr Jagan would start his yatra from Mahaboobabad and would visit 77 families in five days by travelling 1,100 Km.

Meanwhile, the director-general of police, Mr R.R. Girish Kumar, said, Mr Jagan didn’t apply for permission for his tour of Warangal. “So, no decision is taken yet, ” he said.
