Girls grab 7 of 8 top SSC ranks

Despite being bogged down by the 40-day agitation for statehood, Telangana districts stole the show in the SSC public examination results announced on Sunday. Among the top 10 districts by overall pass percentage, six were from the Telangana region.

The top three districts in the list were from Telangana, namely Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Nalgonda. Only Kadapa, West Godavari, Guntur and Krishna from outside Telangana could make it to the top-10 list.

Also for the first time, girls bagged five of the top six ranks. Ms M. Hemanjali of Tirupati’s Keshava Reddy Concept School topscored with 593 marks. Ms D. Pooja of the school’s Nandyal branch came second with 589, The third rank went to Ms Naga Diyvashri of Maha Vidyalaya, Khammam, who scored 588 marks.

Corporate schools hogged the limelight this year too. Ms Gayathri Saramistha of Narayana e-techno school secured 588 marks and stood joint third. Ms Poshita (584) was seventh and Ms Nandini (583) eighth, from Narayana Group.

Mr P. Abhishek Goud of Nalanda School, Vengal Rao Nagar, got the fourth rank with 587 marks. Ms M. Janashri of Bhashyam, Hyderabad (586) was fifth, Ms Sai Srija (586) sixth and Ms E. Manisha of Gowthan Model School, Karimnagar, was ranked seventh with 584 marks. Ms Hemanjali’s father, Mr M. Ganesh Reddy, works in the technical department of the Indian Railways, her mother, Ms Ramadevi, is a teacher in the TTD-run SV High School. Mr Ganesh Reddy exclaimed: “I am the happiest person now. What else do I want?”

The overall pass percentage of the state too improved to 81.63 from 78.26 last year. Interestingly, Hyderabad secured last place with 71.79 per cent students passing.

The pass percentage increased from 90.94 per cent last year to 92.65 per cent in Nizamabad district, Karimnagar (87.22 per cent to 90.30 per cent), Nalgonda (79.64 per cent to 88.42 per cent).

As many as 13,48,726 students had appeared for SSC exams in March. Of them 10,62,812 were regular candidates and 2,85,914 were private candidates. In the regular category, 4,45,659 boys and 4,21,935 girls passed the exams. Girls fared better with 82.01 per cent passing while boys recorded a pass percentage of 81.27.

Even the number of schools which achieved 100 per cent results increased from 1,993 to 2,433. The number of schools with zero per cent results also increased from seven to 12.
