TRS asks cadre to gear up for great T battle

The president of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, said a “maha yuddham” (great battle) is inevitable after December 31 to achieve separate statehood. Mr Rao asked party leaders and cadre to be prepared for a snap poll in view of the fluid political environment.

He accused the government of deliberately ignoring the maintenance of irrigation projects in the Telangana region, which has resulted in several projects unable to cover the ayacut, and he also demanded an immediate release of Rs 300 crore for the Sri Ram Sagar Project.

“Not a single paisa has been released for SRSP after 2007. Though the sanctioned staff for the project is 356, at present, only 156 people are employed. And of the 156, 20 have been suspended for alleged irregularities and 60 have been served with show cause notice. How can anyone work in such an environment?’’ asked Mr Rao.

Mr Rao said that farmers were in deep trouble due to the shortage of fertilisers and other agricultural inputs.

Meanwhile, Mr Rao has also got down to strengthening the party from grassroots level in entire Telangana including Hyderabad.

TRS has planned to set up several party units in the slums in the city.

Sources in the party said that party is eyeing Telugu Desam members, which suffered a severe drubbing in the recently-concluded bypolls.

Sources in the party said that several TD leaders are likely to switch sides if the TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, does not come out with a confidence building exercise for the people of Telangana.

“We have kept our doors open. We welcome who ever intends to support Telangana,’’ said Mr Etala Rajender, the TRS floor leader in the Assembly.
