Members of Telangana Federation of University Teachers Association (TFUTA), an umbrella group consisting of teachers from all the 10 universities in the Telangana region are planning a ‘Chalo Delhi’ programme in the third week of March.
This was decided at a meeting of TFUTA representatives at Kakatiya University here on Saturday. However, unlike the agitation led by Telangana Adv-ocates Joint Action Committee (TAJAC) in Delhi recently, TFUTA members have ruled out any protest march or dharnas there.
“The teaching fraternity from TFUTA would impress the need for separate Telangana with UPA and NDA allies,” said Association of Kakatiya University Teachers (AKUT) president Prof T. Papi Reddy.
The members decided to represent the case of the higher educational sector in Telangana region before Justice Srikrishna committee. For this, TFUTA has also announced constitution of separate sub-committees which would compile data on different aspects relating to general, technical and health universities of the region.
“These sub-committees would mainly compile reports based on the discrepancies in the allocation of funds, recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff and infrastructure in Telangana universities vis-à-vis their counterparts in non-Telangana region during the last 55 years,” added Papi Reddy, while also criticising the practice of appointment of non-Telangana teaching staff in Telangana universities.
Once these reports are compiled, sources said, it would be submitted to the Srikrishna committee.
The TFUTA members, were miffed with the priority given to Kadapa’s Vemana University by the government. Both Telangana University and Vemana University were established at the same time.
However, while the former was sanctioned only Rs 27 crore and 40 teaching staff, the latter received Rs 300 crore along with 250 teaching staff, the TFUTA members complained.
