A woman typist hurled her slipper at a judge in a Kurnool court on Thursday, alleging that he had been mentally harassing her for several months.
The incident occurred at the court of the district fourth additional magistrate, Mr M.
Shanmugam.
The judge immediately suspended the typist, Ms Radhikarani, who fainted on hearing the order and was rushed to a hospital. Police also registered a case against her on a complaint by the judge.
Ms Radhikarani said she had no regrets at hurling her slipper at the judge since he had been harassing her as well as other court staffers.
She added that he had asked her sarcastically to keep her footwear on her head as soon as the session started on Thursday and this provoked her. "Let God punish me if I did something wrong," she said.
Sources said it was common practice especially in the districts for staffers to leave their footwear outside the court and the magistrate reprimanded Ms Radhikarani when he found that she was wearing her slippers.
The two-town circle inspector, Mr P. Srinivasulu, said that judge had also mentioned in the complaint that Ms Radhikarani had been shaking her legs restlessly and this had irritated him. She threw her footwear on his stomach after he scolded her and asked her not to shake her legs.
The judge also alleged that Ms Radhikarani had made several mistakes while typing a bail petition on February 22 and he had pulled her up. The "slipper throw" was in revenge for that, he said.
