The Osmania University (OU) has received 1,05,000 applications for its post-graduate courses this year. With the deadline for the last day to receive applications still open, the university hopes to cross the 1.1 lakh application mark.
More than 20,000 aspirants applied for the Master's course in chemistry, 9,835 for life sciences and more than 5,000 for maths.
The university clarified that the entrance exam for post-graduate courses is scheduled for June 14 and not June 7 as declared earlier. Results will be declared in the first week of July and classes will start in August.
“We had to change the dates for the entrance exam as it was coinciding with the dates of other entrance tests. This time the competition is very stiff for post-graduate seats. We are offering a new post-graduate diploma in information management for students with a Master’s degree in library science. The details of the entrance examination will be put on the OU website,” said Prof. Tirupati Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the university.
He attributed the university being listed the tenth best in the country according to a survey by AC Neilson and a national weekly, to the increase in the number of fellowships and research posts in the university. He denied that the Telangana agitation and violence had any adverse impact on the image of the university.
“We are introducing several reforms in our examination system and curriculum. We are second only to Delhi University in the number of scholarships and fellowships sanctioned. We are sure we will be in the top five varsities’ slot in the next academic year. Contrary to the image of the OU perceived by a few due to the Telangana agitation, OU has found a place in the top varsities list,” Prof. Rao said.
