New twist to teachers’ promotion

The allegedly fake certificates submitted by over 400 government teachers to claim promotions took a new turn with some MLCs coming out in support of the teachers.
The commissioner and director of school education, Ms Poonam Malakondaiah, had issued ‘reversion orders’ for the promoted teachers but was forced to keep it on hold as the AP State Council of Higher Education, which had earlier stated that these certificates were invalid, has now sought more time for clarification.
The government had promoted about 30,000 teachers in 2009.
However, there were allegations that nearly 2,000 teachers who were thus promoted had submitted certificates issued by universities of other states which is against the rules.
APSCHE reported that the certificates issued by three deemed universities — Vinayaka Vidya Mission, Salem, Tamil Nadu, IASE, Rajasthan, and JRN Vidyapeet, Rajasthan — are invalid. Based on this, Ms Malakondaiah issued orders to issue ‘reversion’ orders for over 400 promoted teachers who had submitted these certificates.
