Congress legislators from Telangana region have decided to withdraw their resignations following the formation the Justice Srikrishna committee.
They will also attend the Assembly Budget session, which starts on February 15.
The purpose of the committee is to hold consultations on the situation in Andhra Pradesh arising from the demand for a separate state.
Telangana MLAs retracted their resignations saying they have full faith in the committee. “Telangana will be formed within a year; that is why we have decided to take back out resignations,” said Mr K. Venkata Reddy, minister for IT and youth affairs.
However, the Telangana JAC convenor, Prof. Kodandaram, said agitations won’t cease till it comes out with clear terms. He said the JAC would chalk out an action programme after studying the committee’s terms of reference.
Meanwhile, the Centre on Thursday started deliberations on finalising the terms of reference (TOR) of the five-member committee headed by Justice B.N. Srikrishna (Retd), which will hold consultations with all sections of people and different political parties and groups in Andhra Pradesh on the demand for the creation of a separate Telangana state.
The member-secretary of the newly-constituted committee, Mr Vinod K. Duggal, held a half an hour meeting with the home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, and the home secretary, Mr G.K. Pillai, and discussed the broad contours of the TOR. Mr Duggal is expected to travel to Mumbai to discuss the terms of reference with Justice B.N. Srikrishna (Retd). “We are trying our best to quickly put in place the terms of reference,” government sources said. The terms of reference is likely to be announced by the end of this week, the sources said.
