MIM, TD, Congress bag 1 seat

The Congress, the Telugu Desam and the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Musli-meen bagged one seat each in the MLC elections held for the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy local authorities’ constituencies.

The counting of votes was taken up on Monday morning. It was a cakewalk of sorts for Mr M.S. Prabhakar, the Congress nominee who secured 69 votes, and Mr Syed Amin Jafri, the Majlis nominee who got 55 votes.

The Opposition TD candidate, Mr E. Mallesam, got one vote as the party decided to boycott the polls on Friday. In the Ranga Reddy local authorities’ constituencies, the TD nominee, Mr P. Narender Reddy won the seat defeating Mr Kasani Gyaneswar of Congress by a margin of 48 votes.
