The Osmania University will start its first e-classroom in the new Central Facilities building from this academic year. All workshops, seminars, conferences and demonstrations held in this e-classroom will be web cast on the university website live via the cameras that have been installed in the classroom.
For now, only students within the university campus can view the workshops and seminars through intranet, but the university is working on a “learning management system” that will enable students from other colleges also to watch the e-classes.
“The new e-classroom has cameras recording the classes and they will be web cast across the university. Due to inadequate bandwidth, we are not able to offer this to colleges outside the university. But in the next phase, we will ensure that everyone gets access to the videos on computer,” said Prof S.L. Goud, the director, Central Facilities building.
The date and timing of the lectures and workshops will be put up on the university website. The newly constructed Central Facilities building which houses the e-classroom is waiting to be inaugurated by some VIP. Built at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore, it also has sophisticated research equipment worth Rs 7 crore for all the science and social sciences departments.
