Students urged not to end lives

Cutting across barriers of political affiliation, leaders, members of various students’ organisations on Sunday appealed to youth not to sacrifice their lives for achieving Telangana.

Choosing the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on the Tank Bund as the venue, student leaders read out the appeal, using print and electronic media to convey the message. “You should be the builders to facilitate the formation of a separate State and by taking your own lives, you are only causing anguish to your friends/relatives in the name of an agitation,” they said.

Among those present were B. Dinesh Chowdary (Telugu Nadu Students’ Federation), Uma Maheshwar (All-India Students’ Federation), A. Madhu Goud (NSUI) and Ram Narasimha Goud (TRS Vidyarthi). They said suicides were not the way to achieve the goal of Statehood. Only by joining hands and agitating together could they reach the goal, the leaders reiterated.
