The home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, on Wednesday asked the India Inc to spend money to counter the propaganda of Maoist sympathisers.
Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) annual meet, Mr Chidambaram said a small group in civil society held the view that the government was an enemy it should be fought at every stage.
“They believe that if in that fight if an armed liberation struggle takes place in this country so be it,” he said. “Many of these people are highly educated. They hold very important positions in universities and write very well.”
The home minister said what bothered him more was the lack of concern of the other large section of civil society. “How many of you have raised your voices and spoken in favour of development?” he asked. “How many of you are going to spend money to counter this propaganda?”
