Adhurs lands KCR kin in trouble

Banjara Hills police has booked a case against Ms Kavita, daughter of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti president, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, for goading party cadre to disrupt the screening of the movie Adhurs starring Junior NTR.

After she issued the threat, TRS activists burnt cutouts of Junior NTR and also stalled the screening of the film in several theatres in the state. Ms Kavita heads Jagruti, the cultural wing of the TRS.

Police has booked her under non-bailable sections for making statements leading to public mischief and causing criminal intimidation.

The Banjara Hills assistant commissioner of police, Mr Ravinder Reddy, said a case was booked against the TRS chief’s daughter under Sections 505(1), 506 and 7(1) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act. “We are taking up investigation,” he said.

Though the case was registered two days back, it came into light only on Friday. “We have registered the case as per the complaint lodged by a sub-inspector on the comments she made on a TV channel,” said the Banjara Hills inspector, Mr Iqbal Siddique. “Almost all the channels aired her statements.”

Ms Kavita had said that the TRS was “hurt” by Jr NTR saying that he as an artiste had no view on the Telangana issue. She also pointed out that the producers, Mr Kodali Nani (TD MLA) and Mr Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan, TD leader, had openly supported Samaikya Andhra and opposed Telangana.

Police said that the question of arrest would arise only after completion of preliminary investigation. Ms Kavita was not available for comments.

The TRS and Jagruti the other day urged people of Telangana to launch a “non-cooperation movement” against Telugu filmmakers and business houses opposing separate statehood. Both the TD and the BJP had criticised the TRS for targeting films.
