Superintendent of AMRI hospital in Salt Lake Debashish Sharma, where Jyoti Basu is admitted, said "He has been put on ventilator support on Wednesday morning and his condition has turned serious".

HC quashes state GOs allotting land to VIPs
The AP High Court struck down all the government orders (GOs) issued by the state allotting lands to housing societies belonging to MLAs, MPs, IAS, IPS, IRS officers and journalists.

Bandh hits life in 13 districts
A bandh for the continuance of integrated Andhra Pradesh paralysed life in 13 coastal and Rayalaseema districts in the State on Monday. Shops and offices remained closed and State-owned buses went off the road. Educational institutions, particularly schools, which are in the middle of half-yearly examinations, remained closed and Monday’s exam was postponed.

AP tops in crime against women
Even as the state is in the limelight owing to the ongoing agitation for and against bifurcation, it got another dubious distinction of emerging the top state in the country in sexually harassing its women. The state accounted for 30.3 per cent of the sexual harassment cases registered in the country.

Thilan Samaraweera’s second ODI century and Thissara Perera’s gem of a cameo tilted the balance as India slumped to a five-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka in their tri-series opener.
Defending a 279-run total, India fancied their chances in their first outing of the new year but the 122-run stand between Samaraweera (105 not out off 106 balls) and Kumar Sangakkara (60), followed by Perera’s unbeaten 15-ball 36 turned the match on its head.

Dhoni blames loss to dew
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni blamed the team’s inability to defend a decent total to the dew factor and said the side might request the organisers for an early start of the remaining matches.
