The commissioner and director of school education, Ms Poonam Malakondaiah, on Monday, said the SSC exams will be held as usual across the city except for the curfew-bound areas.
She said a decision to postpone the remaining exams will depend on the situation. The violence had an adverse impact on the students who appeared for the SSC exams for maths-I. Reports from the old city indicated that nearly 1,200 students had missed the exam on Monday, though nearly 30,000 others appeared for the exam in 110 centres located in trouble-hit areas. However, officials denied this saying that there was no violence during exam time.
“I visited several centres in trouble-hit areas of old city to lend moral support to our staff. There was no problem whatsoever and the instances of students missing the exams have not come to our notice,” Ms Malakondaiah said.
Some parents and students preferred to skip the exams. “The government should have postponed the exam on Monday,” said Mr Afzal Ahmed, a resident of Charminar.
“We can anyway appear for advanced supplementary exam. There is no fear that my son will lose an academic year if he misses the exam now,” Mr Ahmed said.
