3G phone service launched

Kotla Jayasuryaprakasa Reddy, Member of Parliament, formally launched 3G phone services here on Saturday.
Kurnool MLA T.G. Venkatesh, BSNL General Manager V.V.S. Raghava Kumar, General Manager Mobile Services Govindarajulu and Deputy General Manager John were present at the occasion among others.
Mr. Suryaprakasa Reddy appreciated BSNL for launching the latest phone services in Kurnool. He said that development in the area was linked to communication facilities.
Mr. T.G. Venaktesh recalled that two decades ago telephone operators were considered VIPs and people making long distance calls were at their mercy.
Explaining the features of the new facility, Mr. Raghava Kumar said that the 3G service would support video calling, mobile TV, mobile broadband, online gaming, video conferencing and faster video downloading.
The existing 2G customers could migrated to 3G through an online request SMS, typing “M3G120” for pre-paid and “M3G25” for post-paid, to 53733. Different tariff plans would be made available for pre-paid and post-paid customers.
Mr. Govindarajulu said that 3G would usher in a new era in telephony. He said that customers could retain their old number even after migrating to 3G. He said that the service was launched in 29 major cities and towns in the State.
The project cost BSNL Rs 800 crore in Andhra Pradesh.
