The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Saturday assured the Muslim community that his government and the Congress high command were committed to provide four per cent reservation to backward Muslims.
Participating as chief guest in a Muslim conference organised by the Pradesh Congress Committee in Gandhi Bhavan, Mr Rosaiah said he was quite hopeful of the Supreme Court passing stay orders on the AP High Court’s full bench judgement against creating reservations for Muslims.
He said the Muslim community is part of the Congress family and the party governments never ignore Muslims and their welfare. He said even the Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi is serious about reservations to backward Muslims.
The PCC chief, Mr D. Srinivas, said the state government will do everything in its power to get four per cent reservations for Muslims.
He said ever since Congress came to power in 2004 in the state, it has been extending several sops to the Muslim community.
The former minister and convenor of the conference, Mr Shabbir Ali said there cannot be different yardsticks applied for Hindus and Muslims in getting reservations. While backward communities of Hindus are being extended reservations, the same is denied to backward Muslims, he said.
