NIT student ends life after ‘bad test’

Disappointed by a poor performance in semester examination, Machireddy Chaitanya Kumar Reddy, 19, a first year ECE student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), committed suicide at his NIT hostel room in Warangal. The student was a native of RBN Colony, Madanapalli, in Chittoor district.

According to sources, two other roommates of Chaitanya, who lived in Baba Hall in the 4th Block at NIT campus, grew suspicious after Chaitanya did not venture out of the room till Wednesday evening.

Later, when NIT authorities broke open the door, his body was found hanging from a ceiling fan. He had used a bedsheet to hang himself. It is suspected that Chaitanya might have actually killed himself on Tuesday night as his two roommates, who had returned after a short Ugadi vacation, found their room locked from inside.

Having found the room locked even on Wednesday morning, Chaitanya’s roommates, who had slept in other rooms, left to attend their classes at 8.00 am. They returned in the evening to find the door locked yet again.

Sources said that Chaitanya used to be an introvert, and had few friends.
