The Joint Action Committee of Telangana had extended support to the bandh call given by the students.
The Osmania Students JAC had given the two-day bandh call and had forced the closure of all educational institutions in the region. The students have also boycotted the examinations in protest.
The educational institutions remained closed on the day and the managements have declared holiday for Wednesday also, fearing attack by the agitating students.
The students are currently holding the padayatra in the region which would culminate in Warangal on February 7 with a public meeting. Representatives of various political parties, intellectuals and others would address the meeting after which the agitation would be further intensified.
The JAC chairman, Prof. A Kodandaram, appealed to the people of the region to support the bandh on Wednesday. The JAC felt the need to mount pressure on the Central government to speed up the process of creation of the Telangana state.
The JAC alleged that the UPA government was under pressure from the leaders of Andhra and Rayalaseema. The JAC wanted the government to think beyond the political and business lobbying, as people of Telangana were fighting together for the cause.
