The Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal is all set to come out with an interim report in August directing that the surplus water from the river be shared by AP, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Until now, AP has been enjoying exclusive rights over about 330 TMC ft water of the Krishna River under the Bachawat award. The Brijesh Kumar tribunal has reviewed this decision on the request of Karnataka and Maharashtra and has decided to divide water among the three.
While Maharastra has demanded 130 TMC ft water, Karnataka is going ahead with irrigation projects requiring 244 TMC ft. The state government has also proposed an irrigation project with capacity of about 249 TMC.
