Uncertainty prevails over the eligibility norms for B.Ed and law courses in the state even as the notifications for admissions into these courses will be issued on March 10 and 11 respectively.
The National Council for Teacher Education, the sole regulator for teacher education in the country, has stipulated 50 per cent marks in graduation to be eligible for B.Ed while the Bar Council of India (BCI), fixed age bar of 20 years and 30 years to join five-year and three-year law courses respectively.
The colleges have been pressurising the state government to relax these norms ahead of Edcet and Lawcet notifications this week fearing large number of seats would remain vacant if the new norms are implemented.
The state has 604 B.Ed colleges offering 64,724 seats and 46 law colleges with a total of 9,463 seats. About 10,000 B.Ed and 2,000 law seats remained vacant last year due to poor response from students.
