Doctor couple held for death of domestic help

The Karkhana police on Thursday arrested the doctor couple after their 13-year-old domestic help, Laxmi, was found dead in a car in their house on Wednesday.
Based on the complaint and allegations made by Laxmi’s parents on Wednesday, Karkhana police had registered cases under Sections 306, 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the IPC and Section 3 of the Child Labour Act against Dr Prabahakar Reddy and his wife Dr Sobha Reddy.
“Laxmi’s parents claimed that the couple used to make their child do sit-ups if she did not do household chores properly. Based on the earlier incidents and the statements of Laxmi’s parents, we registered cases and arrested the doctor couple,” said the Karkhana sub-inspector, Mr G. Santosh.
However, Mr Santosh said, “we are still awaiting the post mortem report and it is early to jump to conclusions on the cause of Laxmi’s death.”
It may be recalled that on Wednesday morning the doctor couple had left their house in Vahininagar at Karkhana for the clinic. On their return, they found Laxmi missing. They searched for the girl with the help of her uncle and found her dead on the rear seat of a car parked on the premises of their house.
According to sources, initial forensic reports suggest that the girl died of poisoning.
