Protests mar opening of Langar Houz flyover

The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Sunday inaugurated the flyover at Langar Houz amidst protests by BJP activists over its naming.
Led by ex-MLA Baddam Bal Reddy, BJP activists raised slogans against the naming of the flyover after former home minister Late Indra Reddy, husband of the present home minister, Ms Sabita Indra Reddy. The BJP demanded the flyover be named after Mahatma Gandhi as it was located near Bapu Ghat near Langar Houz.
Interestingly, the programme ran into trouble before the arrival of chief minister but everything was sorted out facilitating a smooth completion of the programme.
The BJP activists were taken into custody by the police before Mr Rosaiah’s arrival. In his brief inaugural address, Mr Rosaiah said traffic jams in city — due to lack of infrastructure — were having a negative impact on the economy. Investors do not prefer congested cities, he said.
The state government had taken several steps to create infrastructure in order to meet the future demands, particularly for smooth flow of traffic in and around Greater Hyderabad. The Outer Ring Road is one such major project and soon works on Metro Rail would also commence, he said,
The Chief Minister asked the ORR contractors to complete the project on time without compromising on quality.
The ministers, Ms Sabita Reddy, Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Mr Anam Ram Narayana Reddy, Mr Mukesh Goud and Mr Danam Nagender, were present at the inaugural.
