Toddler mowed down by van

In a tragic incident here on Thursday, an 18-month-old girl, who had accompanied her mother to pick up her elder sister from a school-van alighting point at the Malaysian Township in Kukatpally, was crushed under the rear wheels of the school van.
According to the Kukatpally police, Aleti Hansika of the Malaysian Township accompanied her mother Kalyani to the alighting point in the township to bring her sister Jahnavi.
As soon as the school van arrived, Kalyani left Hansika on the footpath and went to the other side of the road. She did not notice Hansika walking behind her. Kalyani helped Jahnavi get down the van and turned back. But, Hansika was stranded there and came under the rear wheels of the bus, police said.
Hansika’s father, Ravi Babu, a Human Resource manager with CTS, located at Madhapur, is in Chennai on official work, said the Kukatpally inspector, Mr Laxminarayana.
The driver of the van fled the spot soon after the accident. Police registered a case under Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC against the van driver.
