Cops foil big Maoist attack

Police claim to have averted a major action of the CPI Maoist by arresting its Karnataka state committee member, Chan-drashekar Gorabale, who was accompanying two top hit-men.

The sharpshooters, Takkelapalli Vasudeva Rao alias Ashanna and Kan-umukkala Ramesh alias Vijay, who according to the police are members of the Central Action Team of the CPI Maoist Military Com-mission, escaped the police net.

Police believe that they were planning to kill a VIP, wearing police uniforms and using a carbine, the weapon most commonly used by police, which were recovered from their den.

Chandrasekhar alias Thippaswamy, 45, who was arrested in the early hours of Sunday in Aija village of Mahbubnagar district is a native of Mudiyanur village in Koppal district of Karnataka. He is a lecturer in economics at a college in Karnataka.
