State to get 50 more engineering colleges

The minister for technical education, law and courts, Mr Mopidevi Venkataramana, said that the state would have 50 more engineering colleges in addition to the existing 670 colleges.

Talking to reporters after releasing results of ICET-2010 at Andhra University here on Monday, the minister said that the state government was getting information in the last minute about sanction of new colleges and as a result, was not able to assess the infrastructure facility claimed by these colleges.

There was no clarity on fee structure also, he said. “State government will soon survey all private engineering colleges to check the ground realities,” the minister added. Regarding fee reimbursement of students, he said that the government would announce a clear picture on Tuesday.

Regarding increase of management quota, old colleges were asking for a hike while new colleges did not want these.

On the sanction of a High Court bench, the minister said that requests have come from various places for establishing a bench, but the Supreme Court had rejected an Assembly resolution and directed the government not to send such resolutions in the future.
