Street justice was in full play in the city in the early hours of Thursday with a furious mob lynching a thief and mercilessly beating up another after they attempted to rob a householder at Ambern-agar in Parsigutta.
The severely injured thief, Tara Singh, was taken to the Gandhi Hospital by the police but died while undergoing treatment, while his cohort, Bachan Singh, is battling for life. Chilkalguda police said the duo migrated to the city some years ago in search of a job and was staying at Vambay Colony in Ramachandrapuram.
At about 3 am on Thursday, they sneaked into Ambernagar to break into a house. “They gained access into the house of Venkata Chari, 30, a painter, and stole a cellphone,” said the sub-inspector, Mr M. Srinivas Rao. “The residents of the house were sleeping on the terrace.”
Then they broke into the house of one Nagalaxmi, who was away, and stole silver articles and cash worth Rs 10,000. The duo then barged into the house of Narsing Das and demanded his gold chain at knife point.
