TV artiste fakes attack in reality

In true soap opera style, television actor Dimple Kontham was arrested on Sunday for organising an acid attack on her former boyfriend and for orchestrating an attack on herself in order to avoid suspicion.

The incident seemed to border on the bizarre when it was learnt that the acid that was thrown on the former flame turned out to be spirit. Police said that Dimple, 23, a resident of Yapral, planned the acid attack on Sridhar Varma when he refused to marry her after having a two-year-long affair with her.

Dimple had apparently also helped Sridhar Varma bag a role in a television serial. “To take revenge on Sridhar, Dimple planned an acid attack on him and asked her assistant Mani to execute the plan. Mani in turn approached her friend, Nagaraj, and asked for his assistance. Nagaraj agreed and procured the acid two days before the attack,” said the KPHB police inspector, Mr N. Narasimha Reddy.

Dimple has acted in TV serials for various channels and was presently shooting for a Telugu serial Turpu Padamara. She, Mani and Nagaraj were arrested while Uday, Nagaraj’s associate, is absconding.

On June 8, Nagaraj and his associate Uday went on a motorcycle to Malaysian Township and poured acid on Varma’s face. Luckily for Sridhar Varma it turned out to be spirit.
