Jayasudha fumes as her candidates are left out

The Congress MLA from Secunderabad, Ms Jayasudha Kapoor, has declared war against the Mayor, Ms Banda Kartika Reddy, and her husband, Mr Banda Chandra Reddy, accusing them of working against her in her constituency. “I will not hesitate to resign. It should be me or her in Secunderabad. I will lodge a complaint against the Mayor with the party leadership,” Ms Kapoor said. Ms Kartika Reddy is a corporator from Tarnaka, which falls under the Secunderabad constituency.

The differences between the Banda family and Ms Kapoor have been brewing for some time now and came to the fore on Thursday when candidates recommended by the MLA were not nominated as members of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ward committees, the elections for which were held at the corporation’s head office on Thursday.

Ms Kapoor came to the GHMC office after the elections to seek an explanation from the Mayor. The Mayor was busy with other corporators, so Ms Kapoor asked Mr Banda Chandra Reddy for an explanation. He replied that one of her candidate had been accommodated on the ward committee.

“Is Chandra Reddy doing a favour or offering charity to me by approving one of the three candidates recommended by me? I threatened to resign and he told me to my face to go and resign. He cannot speak to an MLA in that tone. The Mayor’s husband is acting as an extra-constitutional authority,” she said.
