TTD gold wall hits HC hurdle

Stating that the government was meddling with temple affairs, the Andhra Pradesh High Court stalled the gold plating project of Tirumala Tirupati Devesthanams (TTD) on Wednesday.

While dealing with a petition filed against gold plating the walls of the sanctum sanctorum of the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala under the “Ananda Vimana Swarnamayam project”, a division bench comprising Justices B. Prakasha

Rao and R. Kantha Rao stayed further activity of project.

The bench granted the interim order while admitting the petition filed by Mr G. Raghava Reddy, president of Devalayaparirakshana Samiti.

Swarnamayam was inaugurated by YSR in Sept. 2008.
* Rs 40 lakh has been spent on the project.
* 135 kg gold was donated by devotees.
* 250 kg gold needed for the the project.
* Project was to be completed by Aug. 2011.
