SHRC seeks report on company closure

The SHRC on Wednesday directed the joint commissioner of labour of Ranga Reddy district to submit a report by May 11 in response to a petition filed by the employees of a battery manufacturing unit that abruptly closed its Moula Ali unit on April 24. The employees alleged that the factory management was trying to get rid of the employees so that it could sell the land, which the previous management acquired at subsidised rate from the government.

The petition alleged the joint commissioner was delaying action on their complaint. An employee of the company, said the unit sought a stay from the court barring employees from protesting near the company’s premises. “Some of the employees took VRS and left, some were threatened by the management,” he said.
