Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, Deepika Padukone, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif have already been spotted at the IPL matches in their different capacities — as team owners, or endorsing teams or in some cases, simply as spectators. Even our own Chennai team was endorsed by Kollywood stars during the first edition of IPL. This time around, actress Trisha was spotted at Chennai’s Chepauk stadium, supporting the CSK team.
Now the latest news is that actress Asin, who made it big in Bollywood with her debut film Ghajini, will soon be a brand ambassador for the recently formed Kochi IPL cricket team.
The Kochi IPL team is part owned by Venugopal and Shailendra Gaikwad and the man behind the scenes who put it all together was none other than Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor, who’s also an MP from Trivandrum. A source said that the organisers are convinced that Asin, who hails from Kerala, would be the right choice and a big star attraction and crowd puller for their team, which will take the field for the next season, in 2011.
When contacted Asin’s father Joseph Thottumkal said, he did not want to comment, except to say that the announcement should come from the team owners.
