OU gets record PG applications

The Osmania University, which started receiving applications for its post graduate courses on Monday, has got huge response from students. The university got 20,000 applications on Monday itself for its post graduate courses.

OU issued the admission notification for the 52 PG and 11 diploma courses last week and started selling the applications on Monday.

Due to the three-month-long Telangana agitation and the violence on campus, many thought the number of applicants to OU will fall this year. But, contrary to expectations, OU broke the record by getting 20,000 applications on Monday and 8,000 applications on Tuesday.

“The Telangana agitation was a larger issue and people understand that students here are not involved in violence. The students did not damage the university property during the whole agitation. It did not harm the image of OU,” said Mr Rajeshwar Reddy, director of admissions, OU. “Even newly formed universities in the Telangana region have not affected the number of applications for OU as they are yet to build infrastructure on their campuses,” he added.

OU officials claimed the response has been huge for chemistry, microbiology and biochemistry.
