Even as rumours were doing the rounds that Ranbir was signed to play the lead role in Mani Ratnam’s next venture, Azaan, the filmmaker has decided to let one of his assistants helm the project. Ever since, things have changed.

“Ranbir was excited to be part of Mani Ratnam’s project. But all hell broke loose when the project changed hands. Mani decided to only produce the film, while he would give the reigns to his assistant, Shiva. On hearing this new development, Ranbir did a U turn. He was looking forward to work with Mani, but when he learnt this news, he decided to opt out. Viveik Oberoi then came to the rescue and decided to work with Shiva,” said a source.
