SIT arrests 3 accused in old city clashes

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Friday arrested three of the six accused allegedly involved in four communal offences, including two murders and a brutal attack on an APSP constable, during the communal clashes between March 28 and March 29.

The group reportedly hatched a plan to attack people of a particular community in revenge for the attacks on religious structures at Moosabowli.

The group allegedly attacked persons of a community with stones, lathis and iron rods. They were allegedly involved in two stabbing incidents on March 29. The same day they allegedly attacked an APSP constable and inflicted stab injuries on his shoulder and later burnt his vehicle.

All the three attacks were carried out under the jurisdiction of Hussaini Alam police station limits.

The accused were charged under sections 147,148,427,153 (A) and 302 of the IPC read with 149 IPC and were remanded to custody.

Meanwhile, the city police have lifted curfew in all the 25 police station limits in the city, following improvement in law and order situation. The police had promulgated curfew in 17 police stations of South Zone and eight police stations of West Zone on March 29.

The police commissioner, Mr A.K. Khan, in a statement, urged people not to move out late in the night and not to heed to rumours.

The lifting of curfew brings to an end 12 days of restriction. Curfew has been gradually relaxed in the last few days.

Though the curfew is lifted, police officials said the security personnel would be on standby as a precautionary measure.

Senior officers would monitor the situation, even as the investigation into riots is underway.
